Spartan Service Day
Tradition of Service
This annual university-wide day of service takes place during Rawkin’ Welcome Week in August. It gives UNCG students an opportunity to get off campus and be introduced to different parts of our community while working with our community partners to make a difference. Participation is free. Volunteer teams will be lead by a student Site Leader. Snacks will be provided. We hope this day sparks your interest to continue to learn and serve in the Greensboro community and get involved on-campus and locally!
Please note: Groups that are participating together must have each member register individually and list the same group name when prompted. Please submit any disability accommodations through the registration link by August 14th. Registration will close when capacity is reached, but spaces will open up as cancellations happen so please check back.
Site Leaders
If you’re a sophomore, junior or senior and you’ve participated before or had experience leading community service projects please consider applying to be a Site Leader. As a Site Leader on Spartan Service Day it will be your responsibility to help with set-up, check-in your site participants, lead them to assigned service site, communicate with the community partner upon arrival, facilitate participation in the service project as needed, and lead reflection activities (provided by OLCE) after service. Site leaders will also attend a mandatory site leader training.
Community Organizations
Could your organization use a group of volunteers? Host a project for Spartan Service Day. Each year, students participate in this Welcome Week event by serving with the Greensboro community. Examples of previous projects include sorting donations, decorating classrooms, painting rooms at community centers, working in community gardens, packing food bags, assisting with children’s activities, trail maintenance, and more!
