Catalyst

What is Catalyst?

Catalyst is a community engagement program where participants engage in meaningful community service and be a spark for change! You and your fellow students will have the opportunity to learn about a social and environmental issue that has an impact on our community, serve alongside community partners in the triad, and reflect on your experiences as a group. Each day has a different theme, view the schedule below and scroll to the bottom for more details about what a Catalyst day is like.

Spring 2022 Catalysts:

April 23 – Earth Day

  • This Catalyst will focus on the interactions between students and the ability to help clean up the environment for Earth Day.
  • REGISTRATION IS OPEN!

Past Catalysts:

April 2 – Sustainability & Social Justice in Fashion

  • This catalyst aims to educate students upon what sustainability and social justice means in the fashion industry, and what students can do in their everyday lives to make an impact.

March 26 – Paws for a Cause

More about Catalyst:
  • Catalyst is FREE to UNCG students!
  • All you need to do is apply to go and attend a virtual pre-Catalyst meeting the week before your Catalyst to make sure you’re prepared and have all the information you need.
  • Each Catalyst has room for 8-13 students and is led by trained student staff from OLCE.
  • All participants are required to wear a face covering and practice social distancing through the entire day, even when outside.
  • Transportation and meals (breakfast and lunch) are provided.
  • Each Catalyst is on a Saturday from approximately 8:30am-5pm.
  • Any special equipment needed for the service projects will be provided (gloves, paintbrushes, etc.)
  • OLCE staff can approve these community service hours if you are part of a program that requires service hours (Leadership Challenge, student org, sorority or fraternity, etc.)

Covid-19 Service Protocols

At this time OLCE is offering very limited opportunities for in-person community service throughout the fall semester. We will be offering a modified version of our Catalyst program. Click here to read our Covid-19 Service protocols outlining some of the precautions we are taking.
